My Bra Collection
t's no surprise that in 2019 I went from a 32A to a 32DD - thank you Dr. Barrett! Waking up with breast significantly larger than what I had been used to really opened my eyes to an entire world of womanhood that I hadn't had to deal with until I turned 28. Up until that point, bra-shopping was a no brainer. I knew for certain that a 32A would fit and if there was padding then awesome! But now that I've gone up in cup sizes, I've learned that there's a lot to bra shopping that I've never had to experience.
For starters, extra padding is the biggest no-no now for me. I don't have a need to push anything up because they already sit up naturally. I also learned that my bra size twin is a 34A. I'm glad I found that out as most places where I shop for bras usually don't carry DD's or all the DD's are gone and I have to opt for a single letter instead. I also learned that not every brand of bras fit the same across cup sizes - that's been probably one of my biggest lessons to be honest. I can remember my first few trips to purchase bras, I told each of the women who helped me 'I don't know how it's supposed to fit - should it fit like this? I just got breast.' lol and they were all so understanding!
In any case, once I could wear bras again, I headed straight to my favorite lingerie brand, Agent Provocateur! Back when I was in grad school, I had did a project on the brand and had fallen in love with their collections ever since. Their bras tend to be on the pricey side so I try to find ones I like when they're on sale. That's how I recently found the Elora Full Cup Underwired Bra!
Three things I've come to realize about wearing bras is that I don't like the material to be too thin, I like a deep cut around the cleavage area, and I like my straps to have some width to em'. That provides an overall more comfortable fit. This bra provided me with all of that! I had come to this realization after purchasing this other bra from the brand.
Fun fact: My boyfriend and I had each actually purchased this bra! I saw that it was on sale last year and immediately pulled out my debit card to purchase. He apparently had been doing some birthday gift shopping for me and also saw the bra and thought I'd like it. The end result: when the package came I showed him the new bra I purchased and he told me he had already purchased the same one for me haha. However, he did one better and also purchased the matching thong.
So, we went over to the Agent Provocateur store (which btw, there seems to be so many of them here in LA), and we exchanged it for this pink and gold bra. Isn't it beautiful? It's not as practical as the Elora or the previously mentioned bra. However, it's one of my most favorite ones to wear when I want to show a little bit of bra.
And finally, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the very first bra I purchased from Agent Provocateur! I love this navy blue one because the straps are satin ribbon and I like the lace details. This is another one I tend to use when I don't mind having a little bit of bra showing. One thing I've learned when it comes to making my bra part of my outfit is that it looks best if lace is involved.
With that said, I'm still on the search for a decent black lace bra but it's so hard to find one that I like. Working at Saks in the past has made me a bra snob because there are only certain bra brands I'll wear. Back when I used to wear Victoria Secret, I found myself having to donate or throw out the old ones every 6-8 months. That's because the quality isn't designed to last forever with their Pink collection. Also, one of the reps from Chantal explained bra quality to me and pinpointed what to look for in a bra. It's not necessarily always a matter of wearing the most expensive bra. Rather, it really comes down to fabric and how the bra is constructed.
Now that I feel more compelled to purchase stylish bras, I've began to venture out into various brands like Dora Larsen! Talk about gorgeous. Her bras all have a similar look which I think works well if you can find the right color combination. Although I'm usually not a fan of strapless bras, I couldn't resist this one.
Is it the most practical? Nope. It stays up when it wants to but looks damn good peering out of a blazer!
Next up for me is to find a good bra from LaPerla. I may end up having to save my pennies for that one because the prices make my head spin. I don't bra shop too often because I can be picky. However, I love when I have lingerie binges. I'm still on the fence for a good underwear brand. I haven't given up on Victoria Secret completely in that department. I will say that I have also added some Calvin Klein into the mix. Their cotton thongs are my absolute favorite for days where I wear denim or just lounge around the house. Fleur du Mal has been doing a great job as of late convincing me to purchase some items from their website. I might just cave and do it. If I do, I'll let you all know!
